Luis Suarez confident on Barcelona to Qualify for Champions League
Barcelona forward Luis Suarez says that Liverpool must not fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
After the departure of the Uruguayan, Liverpool have struggled to score goals while they are familiar problem with regards to defending continues. This compounding of problems has seen the club slip to the bottom half of the table even as the season approaches Christmas. At this stage last season, Liverpool were in with a shout to win the title. Suarez’ latest comments came after his former club were knocked out of the Champions League following a 1-1 draw with FC Basel at Anfield.
Liverpool have now been put into the Europa League as a result of finishing third in the group behind Real Madrid and Basel. Liverpool have yet another difficult match this weekend when they visit Manchester United at Old Trafford. Louis Van Gaal’s team have had a full week to prepare for this match while they also seem very good at home. Another defeat will send Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four into a distance. The club can still hope to qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League. Winners of the Europa League, from this season onwards, will be provided a place in the prestigious European Champions League.
“They must qualify for The Champions League next season. If it comes via the league or winning The Europe League – it is not important how. This season can’t be a one off though, because the Champions League is where the club belongs – and it is what the fans expect. Liverpool will be disappointed not to progress out of their group, but the most important thing is that they were back playing at the highest level this season – and it gives them something to build on,” said Suarez.
