IT’S BEHIND HIM

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said that the problems Luis Suarez has suffered after his race row with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is now completely behind the player. Luis Suarez was initially alleged to have made racist remarks against Patrice Evra in the match between the two clubs at Anfield earlier in the season. The Uruguay striker was later found guilty of the offence and was given a hefty ban of eight matches. Even though the ban applied was huge, Liverpool found a way to get around the problem due to the large number of FA Cup and league cup fixtures they have to play during this period.

Now, having completed his ban, Luis Suarez is now available for selection. The player is expected to be named in the squad for the match against Manchester United in the Premier league. This match will be taking place at Old Trafford, and hence that have been suggestions that Luis Suarez would be left out of the match in order to avoid any further complications in this situation. However, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said that the problem between Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra is completely behind the two players right now. Football will be the centre stage in the two teams meet at Old Trafford according to Kenny Dalglish.

“I’m sure people will want to talk about Luis Suarez but he accepted his ban, served his suspension and returned against Spurs on Monday. People are already speculating on the pre-match ceremony, but from Luis’s point of view we have spoken to him and I know he will shake the hand of Patrice Evra and the other Manchester United players before the game,” Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said ahead of the match with Manchester United at Old Trafford. Liverpool face a fight to get into the top four this season.

MANCINI: APOLOGY WAS IMPORTANT

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that the apology issued by Luis Suarez is highly important in the context of his punishment.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in a match between the two clubs earlier in the season. Even though Luis Suarez said on a number of occasions that he was not guilty, video evidences relating to the incident proved otherwise. He was subsequently charged by the English football association and was given a ban of eight matches. He was also given a one match ban for his obscene gesture to the Fulham fans in one of the club’s recent matches.

After the charge and the ban, however, Luis Suarez came out with an apology, although it was not aimed at the player he racially abused – Patrice Evra. Still, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that the apology is very important for Liverpool’s season as a whole and for the future of Suarez in England. Luis Suarez has not been a stranger to controversy at all. Immediately after arriving in England, he was accused of cheating in the World Cup quarter-final match against Ghana. The racial abuse of Patrice Evra, though, has become a much bigger incident and Luis Suarez will now be missing a number of crucial matches for Liverpool.

“It is impossible that we are always perfect. Everything can happen because you don’t think. Sometimes a situation like this can happen on the pitch. It is important to apologise for what he did,” continued Mancini. Roberto Mancini had a long battle with the racist issues while playing in Italy for Sampdoria and Lazio. However, he dealt with the situation quite brilliantly, although he has been highly critical of Liverpool’s decision to use Luis Suarez T-shirts ahead of the match with Wigan.

Suarez Charged with Racism

Luis Suarez has been charged by the FA for an incident involving Manchester United’s Patrice Evra on 15 October.  The FA released a statement charging the Uruguayan with alleged “abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Patrice Evra.”  The statement went on to say that Suarez allegedly used “a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race” of Evra.

Since the accusations began immediately after the 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Liverpool, Suarez has categorically denied any wrongdoing. His club have offered their full support throughout the affair, and are said to be surprised at the FA’s decision to charge him. Suarez is currently expected to plead not guilty, though he did admit to calling Evra a name which his Manchester United team-mates apparently call him on a regular basis.

The exchange between the two premiership players during the match is understood to have been partly in English and partly in Spanish – causing an added complication. The FA are looking into the different meanings associated with certain words by different languages and nationalities.

These charges come at a time when racism in football is under the spotlight due to FIFA’s president Sepp Blatter’s ill-advised comments on the subject. Blatter denied that racism was a problem in football and said that although racial remarks are sometimes made on the pitch, enmities are forgotten after the game when players shake hands. Belittling the problem of racism in this manner has drawn widespread criticism from the footballing community. Among others, PFA chief Gordon Taylor has called for Blatter’s resignation.

Whatever the result of the charge, the investigation will be paid extra attention by the media. If he is found guilty Suarez risks being made an example by the FA. In this high-profile case, there is the chance that the FA will take the opportunity to show their strong stance on the issue of racism.

I Love Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez was born in Salto (Uruguay) on the 24th of January 1987 and was 7 years of age when moved to Montevideo, where his football career began which can be considered as the first big change in his life and that incident has paved way to several other changes in his life and career. In a

He was the middle child in a family of 7 members, which meant he have 3 elder and 3 younger siblings. With a family as big as that, it becomes obvious that they led a humble and modest life with limited financial resources which meant making certain sacrifices and compromises. Luis started to play football at the tender age of 4 when he discovered that he could run faster with a ball to chase than without it. Until the age of 14, when he was selected by National de Montevideo, he never took football so seriously. Within a year of his being a part of National de Montevideo, he was selected by the management to join the first team and the next two years saw him winning his first Uruguayan Championship at the age of 18.

However, his personal happiness could not keep pace with his professional success at that time, as his girlfriend Sofia, who is now his current wife, had moved to Barcelona from Uruguay and they had to continue a long distance relationship for a year. In spite of their personal complications Luis and Sophia did hold on strongly to each other and on getting an opportunity and offer to play in Europe, Luis grabbed it eagerly, just to be beside his lady love. This event has set his European adventures which started with his playing for Groningen in Netherlands when he was just 19 years old. Though he faced lingual barriers for his inability to converse in Dutch of English, he felt a sense of comfort with Sofia’s presence near him.

He had to face problems to adjust with the Dutch League which made him play in the second team of Groningen. But Luis’s resilience, confidence and perseverance had never let him down as he always had an undying faith upon himself that he never gave up in the face of any challenging situations. This belief of him had let him play a miraculous match which saw him score twice and win a penalty kick; though he was brought on to the game which had only 10 minutes to get over. It was hard for him to believe that he played for a first division team in the Netherlands. The sudden successful events and phases where life had taken him through; make him sometimes look down the memory lane and think about his childhood days and friends and fill his heart with pride and sense of achievement. The story continues happily when he received an unexpected phone call from one of the most prestigious European Clubs: Ajax which pushed forward his career and moved him to Amsterdam.

Luis became the proud father of a healthy daughter from Sofia, whom they called Delfi, in the year 2010. His professional life had seen him go through many challenges and the same have also seen him growing more and more successful by sometimes befriending and sometimes defeating the challenges.
