MADRID INQUIRE ABOUT ARSENAL CAPTAIN
Real Madrid have made an enquiry about Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Madrid are following the player’s contract situation. The Gunners captain will be out of contract at the end of next season. He has failed to reach an agreement on a new deal with the club. According to a recent report, the Gabon international has told the club that he will not sign a new deal.
The club is ready to make a decision on the player at the end of the season. If Arsenal fail to sanction the sale or listen to offers for the player at the end of the season, they risk losing the player on a free next summer. With his contract set to expire in 2021, the upcoming transfer window is possibly the final opportunity for the club to cash in on him.
Aubameyang, 30, has scored 61 goals in 97 appearances for the Gunners since signing from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, but has not won a major trophy or played in the Champions League during his time in north London.
Aubameyang is another priority for Madrid this summer. The club has relied heavily on Karim Benzema for goals this season. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 the club has failed to dominate. A trend the club wants to address this summer. They have identified Harlaand, Mbappe and Aubameyang as the players to lead their attack next season. Though the current Covid19 pandemic might affect the financial situation of the club, still, Aubameyang’s deal will be done.
Barcelona have also made their interest known in Aubameyang. The Catalan giant have invested heavily to replace Neymar, but the signings they made have failed to fill the boots of the mercurial Brazilian. Neymar who formed a good understanding with Luiz Suarez and Lionel Messi left Barcelona to join PSG in 2017 in a world record deal.
